Sizing
This is a question we get asked all the time. Please refer to our size charts:
How do I wash & care for my Babu items?
We recommend gentle detergents that are eco-friendly for your babies skin. Non-Chlorine based soakers can be used for our cottons – but NEVER merino – please refer to merino washing instructions or to the blog.
Where do you make your products?
We source all our material from the best quality suppliers, whether it be merino wool for our 100% merino wool baby blankets and clothing from New Zealand and Australia, or 100% organic cotton from India. Every product is designed in New Zealand and made in either Vietnam, India, China or New Zealand under very exact specifications. New Zealand has very few facilities for production left, we search for and use the best possible partners with state of the art equipment and facilities & highly trained staff. Our overseas partners have social audits with some providing organic food for their staff, exercise programs and community initiatives.
Where do you get your merino wool from?
Our merino wool is sourced from New Zealand and Australia.
At Babu we use wool from suppliers who are certified mulesing FREE. It is a practice we do not support. If you need further information about this, please feel free to contact us.What micron and weight merino do you use?
Most of our clothing is 180-190gsm. It is super fine and can be used on premature babies.
Our sleeping bags are 2 layers of 220gsm 100% merino.
Our blankets are all different microns and weights. If you want to know specifics please email us.
Do you use organic cotton?
Yes. For more information please see our article here.
What is GOTS?
The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is recognised as the world's leading processing standard for textiles made from organic fibres. It defines high-level environmental criteria along the entire organic textiles supply chain and requires compliance with social criteria as well. Buying GOTS you can be assured that you items have been made with environmental and social compliance.

What is the difference between interlock (sheets etc) and t-shirt jersey?
Interlock is a much thicker fabric and ours has been double brushed which means it has one side that is fuzzy like a peach, making it extra soft. It is 220 – 240gsm.
Safe sleep
Every year too many babies die suddenly in their sleep. Our statistics in NZ are particularly high. For advise and further resources on safe sleep, please refer to the Ministry of Health's website.
What is tog?
A tog measurement is a European warmth rating: the higher the tog, the warmer the product.
The Tog rating describes the warmth or 'thermal resistance' of a product and is widely used in the UK to explain warmth levels of duvets and sleeping bags made from man-made materials.
Why don’t Babu Merino sleeping bags have a tog rating?
Because Babu Sleeping Bags are made from 100% natural fibres, they breathe and help regulate your baby’s temperature, they do not require a Tog Rating.
Temperature guide for merino bags
22-24°C (71.6-75°F) Short sleeve bodysuit
20-22°C (68-71.6°F) Long sleeve bodysuit
18-20°C (64.4-68°F) Long sleeve bodysuit & leggings
16-18°C (60.8-64.4°F) Long sleeve bodysuit & pyjamas
14-16°C (57.2-60.8°F) As above, with long sleeve tee
What do I wear with my merino sleeping bag?
The ideal room temperature for a baby is between 16-20ºC or 60-68°F. Our Babu™ sleeping bag is perfect wearing for autumn, winter and spring temperatures. It does not carry a tog rating, as it is a natural, breathable fibre, but the above chart will help you decide how to dress your child for the room temperature.
Check your child’s temperature by feeling the back of their neck. If they feel hot, remove a layer. If they’re cold, add a snug fitting hat (where the rim does not pull down over their airways), mittens or a blanket (merino is ideal). Place the blanket width-ways across the child and tuck in snugly. This will stop the blanket moving and covering their face.
